Derby County boss Gary Rowett says that he does not currently hold an interest in out-of-favour Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack.

Derby County boss Gary Rowett has played down speculation linking the Rams with a move for Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack.

After being deemed surplus to requirements by Villa manager Steve Bruce, McCormack will be allowed to leave the West Midlands outfit before the end of the summer transfer window.

A number of clubs are said to be interested in the Scottish international, but Rowett has insisted that he has no plans to try to sign the former Fulham frontman.

The 43-year-old told the Derby Telegraph: "Ross is not one on our list at the moment.

"I think you get those scenarios now where if there is interest in a player, then agents and teams want to stoke that interest up a little bit to create a little bit of a market and some competition.

"I think Ross is a fantastic player when you get him on form. He scores goals, as we saw at Fulham a couple of seasons ago, but at the moment, he's not imminently a target for us."

Derby are in the market for another forward after Darren Bent was ruled out until the closing weeks of the season with a hamstring injury.
