Alex McCarthy apologises to Crystal Palace fans for error against Liverpool

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Alex McCarthy apologises to fans for his error that gifted 10-man Liverpool a route back into their Premier League clash at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has apologised to the club's fans after his error helped Liverpool come from behind to beat his side 2-1 in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Eagles led 1-0 against their 10-man visitors at Selhurst Park when McCarthy slipped while trying to clear the ball, giving it straight to Roberto Firmino, who duly levelled the scores.

Christian Benteke then went on to score a contentious late winner from the penalty spot as Palace's winless run in the Premier League stretched to 12 games.

McCarthy was making his first league appearance since September due to an injury to regular number one Wayne Hennessey.
