Dermot Gallagher: 'Referee wrong to book Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha'

Gallagher questions Zaha yellow for diving

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher says that the referee was wrong to book Wilfried Zaha for simulation during Crystal Palace's match with Watford.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has questioned why Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha received a yellow card for simulation against Watford.

During the second half of the goalless draw at Vicarage Road, Zaha was upended by Adrian Mariappa inside of the penalty area, but referee Chris Kavanagh decided to book the Eagles player for diving.

Replays showed that contact was made with Zaha, leaving Gallagher to admit that he did not understand why the attacker was cautioned after the incident.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "I have sympathy with the referee Chris Kavanagh, but I don't understand why he books him for a dive.

"He may not see it as a foul - and I do see it as a foul - but I definitely don't think it's a dive."

Zaha has now received four yellow cards for simulation in Premier League fixtures.
