Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard hails a "special" achievement after breaking Bobby Tambling's record of 202 goals for the club at Aston Villa this afternoon.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has admitted that he was overcome with emotion after breaking the club's all-time goalscoring record against Aston Villa this afternoon.

Lampard equalled Bobby Tambling's mark to restore parity at Villa Park before reaching 203 Chelsea goals with a late winner in an important 2-1 victory for the Blues.

The 34-year-old admitted that a special achievement helped this afternoon's match rank among his fondest memories as a Chelsea player.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's a huge win for the team. After the long season we wanted to put it to bed today. We showed character to keep going and get out result.

"People have been talking about the record a lot and it's great to get it finally, especially in an important game. It means everything, the support I've had from my teammates and fans has been incredible, they put it on a plate for it sometimes.

"I didn't want to overcook the celebration out of respect for Bobby Tambling but to break the record is special. I lost my mum a few years ago and that was for her."

Lampard has now scored 18 times in all competitions for the Blues this season to help Rafael Benitez's side sit third in the Premier League.
