Charlton Athletic: 'Jordan Cousins injury not serious'

Championship club Charlton Athletic say that the neck injury suffered by Jordan Cousins isn't too serious.

Championship club Charlton Athletic have confirmed that the neck injury suffered by Jordan Cousins won't sideline him for an extended period, despite the fact that it knocked him out.

The winger landed awkwardly on his neck and shoulders after colliding with teammate Franck Moussa during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Birmingham City.

"Jordan landed very awkwardly and when I got onto the pitch he was unconscious," club physio Erol Umut told the Addicks' website.

"Fortunately he came around quite quickly, but I couldn't rule out any neck problems so we didn't take any chances. We stabilised him to get him off the pitch and assess him properly in the dressing room."

"We then ruled out that there was any significant damage to his spine or neck and Jordan was quite comfortable."

Umut confirmed that they expect Cousins to be able to play again soon.

"We will continue to monitor him over the next 48 hours, just as we did on Sunday, to ensure there is no stiffness and that he is OK to start playing again."

Charlton remain unbeaten 11 games into the Championship season and lie seventh in the table after their seventh draw of the campaign.
