Iago Aspas eyes Spain recognition

Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas targets a Spain call-up ahead of Euro 2016 after an impressive start to the season with his La Liga club.

Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas has revealed that he is still harbouring hopes of making the Spain squad for Euro 2016.

The 28-year-old netted 46 times in 136 league games for Celta between 2008 and 2013, but has since had two disappointing seasons at Liverpool and Sevilla.

The striker has been in excellent form thus far this term, however, netting four times in seven games for Eduardo Berizzo's side.

Aspas has admitted that it is unlikely that he is in Vicente del Bosque's plans, but has said that he will do everything possible to book a spot for the European Championships.

"The national team is far away today because I've had two years without much regular playing time, which is essential for a footballer," Marca quotes Aspas as saying. "But if [Celta Vigo] are going well and I'm scoring goals, it will be easier [to earn a place in the squad]."

Aspas, who has never represented Spain at any level, signed a five-year deal at Celta this summer.
