Sam Vokes signs new three-and-a-half-year Burnley contract

Burnley striker Sam Vokes signs a new three-and-a-half-year contract at Turf Moor.

Sam Vokes has committed his future to Burnley by signing a new three-and-a-half-year contract.

The 24-year-old striker's previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season, but he is now tied down until the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche told the club's official website: "We have all seen, so far, great signs of how his all-round game is improving and we are delighted he has decided to stay with us.

"I spoke to Sam in the summer and told him we wanted him to be part of what we are looking to do here at Burnley and he has responded to that challenge.

"He is putting in consistent performances and scoring goals and becoming the player we think he can be, so we are delighted that he is going to continue that process with us as we move the club forward."

Vokes has struck up a successful partnership with Danny Ings this season, with the pair scoring 25 Championship goals between them.

Burnley have been one of the division's surprise packages and currently sit second, four points adrift of leaders Leicester City.
