Jason Shackell determined to prove Burnley doubters wrong

Burnley defender Jason Shackell admits that he wants to prove his side's doubters wrong by staying up in the Premier League this season.

Burnley defender Jason Shackell is determined to prove the club's doubters wrong by beating the drop in the Premier League this season.

The Clarets ended a run of 10 games without a win in the top flight when they defeated Hull City on Saturday as Ashley Barnes scored the only goal of the game at Turf Moor.

Shackell told reporters: "We're used to that. We were used to that last year. We got written off last year at the start of the season, the middle of the season – when we were up there – and even at the end, people thought we were going to drop away.

"It's been the same this season and we're used to that. It does galvanise us as a group and we know what we believe and we believe we're good enough to stay in this league. Keep writing us off and we'll keep proving you wrong."

Sean Dyche's side remain bottom of the Premier League, despite their victory over Hull.
