Mike Garlick appointed Burnley chairman

Mike Garlick assumes sole chairmanship of Burnley following John Banaszkiewicz's decision to step aside as co-chairman at Turf Moor.

Burnley have appointed Mike Garlick as chairman with immediate effect, following John Banaszkiewicz's decision to stand down as co-chairman.

Garlick, who is the Clarets' largest shareholder, will now assume sole chairmanship of the Championship outfit following three years working alongside Banaszkiewicz.

"John and I now own over 75% of the club combined and going forward will continue to work together to move the club forward in a positive and progressive way," Garlick told the club's official website.

"During the past three years we have achieved a great deal working together and we truly believe that the club is in a very strong position to continue improving in all aspects both on and off the field.

"We will both continue to strive to better our club for the benefit of our fans and our community, along with all connected to our very unique football club."

Banaszkiewicz has cited a wish to devote more time to his young family and diverse business interests as his reason behind stepping aside, although he will continue working at Turf Moor as a director.

Burnley were relegated from the Premier League this season.
