Brighton's Alireza Jahanbakhsh was among the scorers as Iran secured a place in the Asian Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Iran.

Jahanbakhsh, who joined the Seagulls from AZ Alkmaar last summer for an undisclosed club-record fee, fired Calos Queiroz's men into the lead 1-0 in the 32nd minute.

Former Fulham and Nottingham Forest midfielder Ashkan Dejagah added a penalty nine minutes later.

Iran's opponents in the next round will be Marcello Lippi's China, who beat Thailand 2-1.

Sunday's other last-16 match at the tournament in the United Arab Emirates saw Vietnam beat Jordan 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
