Brighton & Hove Albion reserve goalkeeper Casper Ankergren vows to challenge Tomasz Kuszczak for a place in the first team.

Brighton & Hove Albion reserve goalkeeper Casper Ankergren has vowed to fight for his place in the first team.

The Dane denied being unhappy at the club and insisted that he will challenge Tomasz Kuszczak for a spot in the starting XI.

"As long as I am close to the team, and the club has yet to tell me otherwise, then I will stay and fight for the place. I assume we will start from scratch next season," he told bold.dk.

"I feel I'm not too far away from the starting line-up. I played against Forest and Middlesbrough, when Kuszczak was out sick and then injured and those opportunities were better than nothing I guess. I think it went well against Middlesbrough seeing as we won 2-0. Had I played a couple of more games then I would have gotten the job.

"But Tomasz has been playing well all season so the manager is not interested in changing things, which I think is fair. I don't have any problems with that."

Brighton are in contention for promotion to the Premier League next season, currently lying in fourth place in the Championship.
