Birmingham City lose their opening Europa League group game 3-1 at home to Portuguese side Braga.

Birmingham City have suffered their first ever European home defeat, losing 3-1 to Braga in their first Europa League group match.

The Portuguese side took only six minutes to go ahead after Helder Barbosa struck home a volley inside the Blues' penalty area.

The visitors doubled their lead just before the hour when Lima lashed in a left-footed strike from close range after the ball had rolled into his path.

Chris Hughton's side kept the pressure on their opponents despite the two-goal deficit and were given a lifeline from Marlon King's tap in.

Any hopes of Birmingham earning a draw were dashed on 87 minutes, however, when Barbosa hit home from six yards.
