Jupp Heynckes takes the blame for Bayern Munich's drop in form since the winter break.

Jupp Heynckes has shouldered the blame for Bayern Munich's recent slump in form, which has seen them drop to third in the Bundesliga.

The Bavarians have stuttered since the winter break, losing 3-1 to title rivals Monchengladbach and struggling to draws against Hamburg and Freiburg.

Bayern also suffered a 1-0 defeat to FC Basel in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie in Switzerland on Wednesday.

"The criticism is justified," Heynckes told De Bild.

"We are no longer playing on the level we were up to October. Also, I have to let the criticism fall on me."

Heynckes also confirmed that there was a dressing room bust-up between Thomas Muller and Holger Badstuber following the defeat in Basel.

Muller was reportedly furious with Badstuber for not doing more to prevent Valentin Stocker's 86th-minute winner.

"There was a disagreement between the two players, but things are perfectly fine now," the 66-year-old added.

Bayern host fourth-placed Schalke 04, who sit just one point behind them, at the Allianz Arena on Sunday.
