Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt handed three-game ban

Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt is handed a three-match touchline ban following his refusal to leave his technical area after being sent off by the referee.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt has been handed a three-game ban, with a further two matches suspended, following his touchline dismissal against Borussia Dortmund at the weekend.

Schmidt refused to leave his technical area when he was sent to the stands by Felix Zwayer, forcing the referee to suspend play and lead the officials off the field until the matter was resolved.

The 48-year-old was unhappy with the referee's decision not to award his side a free kick in the build-up to what proved to be the only goal of the game as Dortmund picked up a 1-0 victory.

The German Football Association (DFB) has now hit Schmidt with a fine of £15,781 and a five-match ban, two of which are suspended until June 30, 2017, due to "continued unsportsmanlike conduct".

Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has also been handed a £7,890 fine for criticising Zwayer's decision to halt the match.
