Barcelona cruise to win over Real Sociedad

Neymar scores a brace as Barcelona wrap up a comfortable 4-0 win over Real Sociedad at Camp Nou in La Liga.

Barcelona have wrapped up a comfortable win over Real Sociedad in La Liga, winning 4-0 at Camp Nou to extend their lead at the top of the table.

The visitors were on the attack in the opening 10 minutes as they tried to get an early goal on the board, but Claudio Bravo was alert in the Barcelona goal, claiming a Carlos Vela delivery intended for Xabi Prieto.

The hosts soon started to threaten down the other end, but Andres Iniesta was denied by the post while trying to head in from a Luis Suarez cross.

Neymar broke the deadlock midway through the opening period after collecting a low cross from Dani Alves, curling the ball into the top corner.

Lionel Messi missed the chance to double the home side's lead from a free kick, but Suarez found the back of the net just before the interval, striking the ball on the volley after an Alves run down the right flank.

Sociedad started the second half on the front foot as they tried to find a way back into the match, as Ruben Pardo and Prieto worked the ball through the middle to set up Yuri Berchiche for the long-range effort, but it was comfortably saved by Bravo.

However, Barcelona soon extended their advantage further as Jeremy Mathieu picked out Neymar with a cross in front of goal, leaving the Brazilian with a simple tap-in from close range.

There was almost a fourth for the home side before the hour mark as Messi tried to rifle the ball into the bottom corner, but the Argentine's finish was inches wide.

The visitors continued to commit numbers forward as they tried to get back into the match in the final 20 minutes, but Barcelona defended well, helping protect Bravo.

Ivan Rakitic tried to set Suarez up for his second of the afternoon late on, crossing the ball in from out wide, but the striker's first touch was lacking, before he scooped the ball over the crossbar.

Bruma came close to getting a late consolation for the visitors after finding himself in space on the edge of the area, but his low, curling strike went just wide.

The woodwork was rattled down the other end a couple of minutes later as Neymar tried to set Messi up for the fourth for the home side, but the ball was kept out by the crossbar.

The striker finally got on the scoresheet in stoppage time though as Neymar and Suarez worked the ball forward again in the final seconds, setting up Messi to turn it in from close range.

The result leaves Barca seven points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of the table, while Sociedad sit 14th.
