Carlos Puyol: 'We will not give up'

Barcelona skipper Carlos Puyol is confident that the Catalan outfit will enjoy a successful end to the season.

Barcelona skipper Carlos Puyol has insisted that the Catalan outfit will continue fighting in the final weeks of the season.

It has been a disastrous last week for the Spanish champions - with a 1-0 defeat at Granada in the league following elimination in the Champions League quarter-finals to Atletico Madrid.

However, Puyol is confident that the club can enjoy a successful end to the season, starting with the final of the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

"It's a huge blow to be eliminated from the Champions League and our next game is difficult, but we're in a final, against a great rival and I'd like to say to the fans, we'll give it everything we've got and that together, everything will be easier. We're facing a great team," Inside Spanish Football quotes Puyol as saying at a press conference.

"In some things we've failed, because we haven't been consistent enough and we're the first ones to feel harmed by that. Now though, we'll fight to the maximum in this final and for the last five games.

"We're not giving up La Liga as a lost cause, although normally, we would have won at Granada. Now we have to look ahead and bring some joy to our fans."

Puyol, meanwhile, has hinted that he could yet remain at Barca this summer despite revealing earlier this year that he would leave on a free transfer at the end of June.
