Bristol City are reportedly considering appointing Aston Villa assistant John Terry as Lee Johnson's successor.

Aston Villa assistant manager John Terry is in contention to take over as Bristol City's next head coach, according to a report.

The Robins parted company with Lee Johnson, previously the division's longest-serving boss, on the back of Saturday's 1-0 loss to Severnside rivals Cardiff City.

Dean Holden has been promoted to take caretaker charge of City, likely until the end of the campaign when a permanent appointment will be made.

Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook and former Brighton & Hove Albion chief Chris Hughton are the two rumoured frontrunners to succeed Johnson.

Football Insider claims that Terry is also being considered, though, as the Chelsea icon looks to take his first steps into the world of management.

Terry has spent the past two years working as assistant to Dean Smith at Villa Park, where he ended his playing career in 2018.

Bristol City are 12th in the Championship and nine points off the playoffs after going nine games without a win.
