Paul Lambert: 'Aston Villa deserved Liverpool victory'

Paul Lambert believes that Aston Villa's shock Premier League victory over Liverpool at Anfield this evening shows that his players are maturing over time.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted that his side were worthy winners against Liverpool having recorded a surprise 1-0 victory at Anfield this evening.

Gabriel Agbonlahor scored the only goal of the game with less than 10 minutes on the clock to condemn the Reds to their second defeat of the season.

"It is one of toughest places to come in Europe, let alone Britain, but I think we deserved the win," Lambert is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"There is a lot of momentum on and off the pitch at his club, the players have been excellent as a group and the supporters have stuck with it and now our young guys are turning into young men."

Villa move up to second place in the Premier League table following the win, with a home match against Arsenal next up.
