Remi Garde calls for support from Aston Villa fans

New Aston Villa boss Remi Garde urges the club's supporters to get behind the team and help them to get out of relegation trouble in the Premier League.

New Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has stated that he will need the club's supporters to get behind the team if they are to haul themselves out of Premier League danger.

The former Lyon boss was appointed as Tim Sherwood's successor at Villa Park on Monday, with the Midlands outfit currently bottom of the table after 11 games.

Garde has said that he is looking for his team to give the Villa fans the lift that they need following the poor start to the season.

"When you play football you want to play in a full stadium," the Frenchman told Villa's official website. "In order to have that you need to behave in a certain way. I'm not too scared about that because I haven't seen players who are cheating or lazy – that's not the problem at the moment for the team.

"We are going to work hard, be smart and clever on the pitch. I know the passion around English football and I know how demanding it is.

"We have to work hard together, and I hope that the Villa fans will be behind the team because I know it's very important for the players, especially when you have so many new players coming from abroad – they need to be supported by the fans."

Garde's first match in charge of Villa will be against Manchester City on Sunday.
