Rumoured Manchester United target Fabinho 'likely to stay at Monaco'

Rumoured Manchester United target Fabinho is reportedly likely to remain at Monaco for the season.

Monaco defender Fabinho is reportedly likely to stay at the club, despite being linked to Manchester United.

Earlier this month, the Premier League giants were believed to be considering a £30m swoop for the right-back.

However, United manager Jose Mourinho claimed last week that he expected a "very quiet" end to the transfer window after securing the signatures of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba.

A source close to Monaco has told Sky Sports News that the club are in a "strong position" to keep hold of Fabinho, and they do not want any "major departures" before the start of the Champions League group stage.

Fabinho himself told L'Equipe that he was "not certain of staying" at Monaco, but admitted that there was "more of a chance" of him staying than departing the French outfit.

The defender permanently joined the club from Rio Ave in 2015 following a two-year loan spell.
