Werder Bremen: 'Deal in place to sign Serge Gnabry from Arsenal'

Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann claims that the club have an agreement in place to sign Serge Gnabry from Arsenal, despite reports linking him with Bayern.

Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann has claimed that the club are in talks with Arsenal over a move for Serge Gnabry.

Gnabry's father earlier seemed to suggest that the 21-year-old midfielder was on the verge of joining Bayern Munich, who would then loan him out to Werder Bremen.

However, Baumann denied those rumours, confirming that he has been in direct contact with the Gunners and that he expects the deal to go ahead.

"Serge Gnabry would like to play for us. Talks with Arsenal are going well. Bayern Munich have no influence on a potential transfer," he told reporters.

"We've agreed terms with the player and we're confident that the transfer will go ahead. We were interested in the player four years ago but unfortunately it didn't work out back then. If the Serge Gnabry deal doesn't go through, which I don't expect to happen, we won't be doing any more business.

"Per Mertesacker told us a lot about Gnabry. He is a big fan of the player. We have reached an agreement with Arsenal but nothing has been finalised as of yet. The transfer could be confirmed tomorrow morning."

Gnabry helped Germany to the final of the Rio Olympics this summer, scoring six goals along the way.
