Villarreal defender Pau Torres reveals that he is learning English in lockdown amid speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal and Manchester City.

Villarreal defender Pau Torres has revealed that he is learning English amid speculation linking him a move to the Premier League when the transfer window reopens.

Arsenal and Manchester City have been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, who has established himself in the Villarreal first team this season having spent last term on loan at Malaga.

Mikel Arteta is thought to see the Spaniard as an ideal target to bolster his defensive options, and Torres has now fuelled speculation by revealing that he will pick up his English lessons during the coronavirus lockdown.

"In the morning I do the training regime and then I do the food following the guidelines established by the club," he told El Periodico Mediterraneo.

"In the afternoon, after lunch, I study a few languages because I was learning English and now is a good time to resume it."

Torres signed a new five-year contract in October, with his new deal understood to contain a £43m release clause.
