Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba could both return to parent club Arsenal at the end of the season, with Marseille set to be hit with a transfer embargo.

Arsenal duo Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba will reportedly return to the club on a permanent basis at the end of this season.

Both players are currently on loan with Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, where they are due to stay for the remainder of the campaign.

Arsenal had planned to offer Saliba a chance of breaking into their first team next season, with Marseille not having an option to buy the defender written into the loan deal.

Marseille did have an £8m option to buy written into the loan contract for Guendouzi, though, which Arsenal were hoping would be triggered.

However, L'Equipe reports that the French side are set to be hit with a two-window transfer ban over Pape Gueye's move from Watford in 2020.

Such a ban would prevent Marseille from making Guendouzi's move permanent, meaning that he would return to the Emirates Stadium alongside Saliba in the summer.

However, Marseille are expected to appeal the decision and could learn whether the verdict will be overturned in three to six months.

Guendouzi and Saliba have both played key roles for Marseille this season, with Guendouzi registering seven assists and two goals in 27 outings and Saliba making 25 appearances.
