Arsene Wenger hails Danny Welbeck performance

Arsene Wenger says that goalscorer Danny Welbeck produced a "very good performance" for Arsenal in their 3-0 win over Aston Villa this afternoon.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised Danny Welbeck for his performance during the club's Premier League win over Aston Villa this afternoon.

The Gunners scored three quickfire goals in the first half as they ran out 3-0 winners at Villa Park.

Welbeck, a deadline-day signing from Manchester United, scored his first goal for the club in the victory and Wenger was impressed by what he saw from the England international.

"He scored a similar goal to the one he scored in Switzerland. A cross from the left and he pushed it in - the timing of his run is good," Arsenal's official website quotes Wenger as saying.

"I think he had a very good performance today because he kept the ball. Ball retention is important and he had a good all-round game for a central striker."

Arsenal are currently fourth in the Premier League table
