Arsenal boss Unai Emery calls for improvement from Mesut Ozil

Unai Emery insists that he has a "very good relationship" with Mesut Ozil and hopes to see the German midfielder kick on at Arsenal.

Unai Emery has admitted that Mesut Ozil still has the capacity to improve and has called on the Arsenal midfielder to become more dominant in matches.

Ozil was recently left out of the Gunners' squad to face West Ham United in the Premier League, prompting rumours that he had fallen out with his manager.

The retired Germany international was back for the 3-2 win against Cardiff City a fortnight ago, but he again failed to last the full 90 minutes in South Wales.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal's trip to Newcastle United this weekend, Emery played down talk of a dispute with the player and insisted that he still has more to offer.

"I want to find with him the possibility to do the best, to make decisive passes, to do more near and in the box to score," he told reporters. "He is working for the team to help us with his quality. But he is feeling like I am feeling.

"He can improve, he can do more. We will work, we will help him, give him the possibility on the pitch to be together, to find his qualities for us. He could feel different [after quitting Germany] but every day with us I look at him and he looks well and happy, working with our demands.

"He had a relaxing three days off at the weekend. Mesut works very well here. I look at him with the focus totally here. I have a very good relationship with Mesut and professionally I push him for improvements to give us the best in his qualities and performances."

Ozil could play at St James' Park for the first time in his Arsenal career, having missed his side's last three trips to Tyneside.
