Michael van Gerwen wins World Series of Darts Finals

Michael van Gerwen continues his remarkable run of form with a dramatic 11-10 triumph against Peter Wright in the final of the World Series of Darts.

Michael van Gerwen has won the inaugural World Series of Darts Finals after producing a stunning finish to his contest with Peter Wright, eventually taking the title with an 11-10 win.

Since the start of the month, Van Gerwen has won the European Championship and Grand Slam of Darts, and the world number one looked on course for a routine victory in the final after surging into a 4-0 lead.

However, Wright, who beat Phil Taylor in the semi-finals, reeled off five legs in a row to take the lead before Van Gerwen levelled the score with a 170 checkout.

From the seventh leg, there was never more than one leg between the two players and when Wright went 10-9 in front, it looked like he would get his hands on his first televised trophy.

Van Gerwen was not finished, however, and after hitting a checkout of 129 to level the match at 10-10, he produced an 11-dart leg to end the hopes of Wright in front of his Scottish supporters in Glasgow.
