Michael Smith suffers early exit from World Series of Darts Finals

World number eight Michael Smith suffers an opening-round defeat to Mark Webster at the World Series of Darts Finals.

Michael Smith has been eliminated from the World Series of Darts Finals after losing 6-4 to Mark Webster.

Smith reached the last four of the Grand Slam of Darts last week, but he was below par against the Welshman, who averaged over 100 on his way to victory.

World Grand Prix champion Robert Thornton capitalised on a number of missed doubles from Devon Petersen to run out a 6-3 winner, while Dave Chisnall edged out Australian Kyle Anderson 6-4.

Terry Jenkins squeezed through to the last 16 with a 6-5 success against Chris Dobey, who was making his televised debut.

Former World Championship finalist Simon Whitlock is out of the tournament after losing 6-4 to Austrian Rowby-John Rodriguez, and world number nine Ian White also failed to progress after losing by the same score to Keegan Brown.

German teenager Max Hopp is through to the last 16 with a 6-3 win over Dimitri Van den Bergh, while Jamie Lewis came from behind to see off Benito van de Pas by a 6-4 scoreline.
