Marlon Samuels: 'I'm motivated by talk from England players'

West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels claims that sledging from England players motivated him on the first day of the second Test in Grenada.

Marlon Samuels has revealed that sledging from England players boosted him as he led the fightback for the West Indies on the first day of the second Test.

Samuels battled his way to a half-century before going on the attack late in the day to finish on 94 not out and help the hosts reach stumps on 188-5, and he admitted that comments from Ben Stokes were motivating him.

"It's obvious the English boys don't learn because whenever they talk to me I continue scoring runs," the batsman told reporters. "But they keep on talking. I guess they can't help it.

"It all depends on how tomorrow goes - Marlon Samuels 150, Ben Stokes with the ball in his hand. It will be very interesting.

"He keeps talking to me but it keeps me motivated and keeps me batting."

Samuels will be looking to score his seventh Test century on day two in Grenada.
