Jacques Kallis scores century in Test finale to take South Africa past India

Jacques Kallis scores a century in his final international match as South Africa move into a 61-run lead over India at lunch in the second Test in Durban.

Jacques Kallis scored a hundred in his final Test match to see South Africa move into a first-innings lead over India in the second Test in Durban.

The all-rounder, resuming on 78 not out, went to three figures in the morning session of day four to set up a perfect finale to his 18-year international career by guiding the Proteas to 395-7 at lunch.

He was eventually caught behind off Ravindra Jadeja for 115 as India ended his 96-run stand with nightwatchman Dale Steyn, who chipped in with a useful 44 to help the hosts establish a 61-run lead.

Francois du Plessis, a century maker in the previous Test, and Robin Peterson were both unbeaten on five as the players left the field, shortly after Steyn fell by edging through to MS Dhoni off Zaheer Khan.

Kallis has now scored 13,289 Test runs, the third most in history, at an average of 55.37.
