Kane Williamson ruled out of South Africa one-day series

New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson is ruled out of the rest of the one-day international series against South Africa after suffering a ligament tear in his wrist.

Kane Williamson will miss the rest of New Zealand's one-day series against South Africa with a wrist injury.

The batsman played no part in the six-wicket defeat in Tauranga on Monday after suffering a ligament tear during a Champions League game in India, as the Proteas took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

The Black Caps are already missing Ross Taylor from their middle order, but will take no risks with Williamson's fitness ahead of next month's first Test against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson told reporters: "Kane has been ruled out for the rest of the series. He needs further rehabilitation on his wrist and it's not the time of year where we want to rush him.

"It's a ligament issue, it was a one-off incident where there was a small tear in there. It's been injected and it's recovered, it just needs some rehabilitation. He batted the last couple of days [in the nets] without a huge amount of discomfort but it's not something we want to rush back."

Williamson, 24, averages 39.51 with the bat in ODIs and has scored three centuries since his 2010 debut.
