England captain Alastair Cook believes that Australia will be tough to beat despite the loss of Michael Clarke through injury.

England captain Alastair Cook has stated that Australia will be tough to beat despite the loss of Michael Clarke through injury.

The Australia skipper has been ruled out of their opening ICC Champions Trophy clash against Cook's side at Edgbaston on Saturday due to a long-standing back problem.

However, Cook has warned that the Australians should not be taken lightly.

"Obviously, when you lose a player of that stature and that quality, it would be a loss to them," Cook told Sky Sports News.

"But they've got a good squad and some fine replacements.

"I don't think it's not all doom and gloom for them, but losing your captain is tough."

George Bailey will captain Australia in Clarke's absence.
