Stuart Broad to sit out England's one-day internationals with Sri Lanka

Stuart Broad will sit out of the limited-overs matches against Sri Lanka in May to give his knee injury time to heal ahead of the Test matches that follow against the Lions.

Stuart Broad will miss England's one-day international series against Sri Lanka and is targeting a return from his knee injury in the Test matches that follow.

The Lions, who were recently crowned World Twenty20 champions, visit Britain later this month for five ODIs, one Twenty20 and two matches in the longest format.

Fast bowler Broad, who has been struggling with tendonitis in his left knee over the winter, wants to ensure that he is fully fit for the first Test against Sri Lanka, which starts on June 12 at Lord's, and so will sit out of the limited-overs games to give himself extra recovery time.

He did, though, suggest that he might make an appearance for Nottinghamshire between now and then.

He told reporters: "I'm just having a little bit of time to get my knee 100% right. "I've played a lot of one-day cricket over the past four months when a lot of the other guys were resting after Australia.

"[I'll] hopefully be back for the seven back-to-back Tests, two against Sri Lanka, five against India, and the one-day series at the end of the summer.

"You can never say definitely with England shirts but I'll definitely be in a Notts shirt on 25 May, pushing for an England shirt in that first Test match against Sri Lanka."

Broad is the England Twenty20 captain, with Eoin Morgan likely to deputise during his absence this spring.
