Interview: Nicola Adams "feeling excellent" following injury problems

Sports Mole speaks to Nicola Adams following her winning start to her 2015 European Games on Friday.

Nicola Adams has told Sports Mole that she is "feeling excellent" following a shoulder problem that kept her out of action for the best part of seven months.

Adams won Commonwealth Gold for Team GB in Glasgow last summer, but it was later revealed that the history-maker struggled with a shoulder problem throughout the tournament.

The 32-year-old is now back to full fitness following an operation, however, and booked her spot in the quarter-finals of the 2015 European Cup with a comfortable victory over Katalin Ancsin on Friday.

Adams, who is also the reigning Olympic champion, has also insisted that motivation is not a problem despite her long spell at the top of the flyweight section.

Nicola, how are you feeling following the shoulder problems?

"I am feeling excellent, 10 times better than I was last year. It was really hard boxing in the [Commonwealth Games] with an injured shoulder, now I am back to my normal self – moving around, jabs pumping out and I am feeling good."

You have achieved so much during an illustrious career. Is motivation ever a problem as you strive to make yet more history?

"No definitely not. It seems like every tournament I go into now I am going for history and this one is exactly the same. It is the first time that we have had a European Games and there is a chance to possibly bring a bit of history home for Great Britain, so that is definitely my motivation."

What about the set-up here in Azerbaijan – have you enjoyed it all so far?

"It has been fantastic. I haven't got any complaints, the eating hall is really good, the Athletes' Village is cool so yeah, all good!"

Adams will face Bulgaria's Stoyka Petrova in the next round on Monday.
