Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh through to flyweight final

Northern Ireland boxer Michaela Walsh sets up a potential Commonwealth Games showdown with Nicola Adams by beating Pinki Rani in the flyweight semi-finals.

Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh has set up a potential Commonwealth Games showdown with Nicola Adams with victory in the flyweight division semi-finals.

The 20-year-old was awarded a split-decision win over India's Pinki Rani in their last-four bout and is now guaranteed to take at least silver away from Glasgow.

Walsh recovered from an early stumble in the corner to win the first two rounds, using her height advantage to avoid Rani's shots while landing plenty of sharp jabs on her opponent.

Rani continued to throw a flurry of punches as she tried to work her way back into the fight, but Walsh remained solid in defence in the final two rounds to convince two of the three judges that she was a worthy winner.

Olympic champion Adams will book her place in the final if she beats experienced Canadian Mandy Bujold.
