The undisputed world middleweight title between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall is postponed after the passing of The Queen on Thursday evening.

The British Boxing Board Of Control has made the decision to postpone the undisputed world middleweight title fight between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall.

On Thursday evening, Buckingham Palace announced that Britain's longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, had passed away at the age of 96.

Since then, governing bodies in a wide range of sports have been required to hold discussions regarding whether certain events can still go ahead.

While the Football Association has made the blanket decision to postpone all matches this weekend, matches in cricket and both rugby codes will be held on Saturday.

However, the BBBofC have opted not to follow suit, instead ruling that no boxing events can be staged over the course of the weekend.

That has led to the showdown between Shields and Marshall, one of the most highly-anticipated bouts in women's boxing, and the subsequent fights on the all-female card at the O2 Arena being postponed.

A statement read: "The British Boxing Board of Control have decided that all tournaments this weekend will be postponed as a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

"We join a nation in mourning and pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her dedication to our country during her long reign and the legacy she leaves behind."

Promoters BOXXER have added that the provisional plan is for the card to be rescheduled for the same venue on October 15.
