Adam Gemili has expressed his pride at having secured his first senior medal on British soil after sprinting to the 100m silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this evening.
Gemili ran a time of 10.10s at Hampden Park, narrowly edging into second place behind Jamaica's Kemar Bailey-Cole to send the fans inside the stadium into delirium.
The 20-year-old paid tribute to the role the crowd played in his success and described himself as "over the moon" with the result, despite missing out on the ultimate prize.
"Not quite the gold, but a medal is a medal and I'm truly happy and truly proud to win a medal for Team England on home soil, British soil," Gemili told Sports Mole.
"I love coming to championships and running, and the crowd absolutely just lifted me and gave me a bit of energy running on tired legs. I'm over the moon."
Gemili will now turn his attention to the 4x100m relay, and he insists that England can beat Usain Bolt and Jamaica to the gold medal.
