Mike Shanahan pleased with depth at tight end

Mike Shanahan feels that having different types of tight end on the roster allows tactical flexibility.

Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has admitted that having a number of options at tight end is a good conundrum to have when selecting his team.

Shanahan said that having players in that position who can block and others who can catch mean that he can adapt his game plan for different opposition.

"Any time you've got talent, that's what you want," he told the Skins' official website. "You want depth, and that's what I feel like we have.

"We have some depth at that position. We've got a lot of guys competing, guys that can do both – guys that can block, guys that can catch.

"That's why we kind of go through the week and determine who has the best practice and who can help us that week and sometimes it will be a scheme, sometimes it will be just a matchup. It all depends on the team we are facing."

Shanahan has been Redskins coach since 2010.
