Chargers to remain in San Diego

The San Diego Chargers confirm that they will remain in the city for at least another season.

The San Diego Chargers have confirmed that they will remain in the city for at least the next season.

The AFC West outfit had agreed an option to relocate to Los Angeles to groundshare the new stadium being developed for the Rams, but have now decided to stay put at the Qualcomm Stadium as they hunt for a new venue closer to home.

"Today I decided our team will stay in San Diego for the 2016 season and I hope for the long term in a new stadium," said Chargers chairman Dean Spanos.

"We have an option and an agreement with the Los Angeles Rams to go to Inglewood in the next year, but my focus is on San Diego.

"This has been our home for 55 years, and I want to keep the team here and provide the world-class stadium experience you deserve... I am committed to looking at this with a fresh perspective and new sense of possibility."

The Rams are due to return to LA from St Louis next season after 21 years away.
