'Love Island' producers "all systems go" for new series

Love Island producers are reportedly ploughing ahead with plans to stage a new series this summer despite the ongoing threat of coronavirus.

The production team on Love Island are reported to be "all systems go" for this summer's series, despite the ongoing threat of coronavirus.

The popular ITV2 reality show normally begins in June in Spain, but government-enforced lockdowns across most of Europe make achieving that target this year almost logistically impossible.

According to the Daily Star, execs are determined that the show will go ahead although they are now working to a new timetable of a July premiere.

"The production team is now doing everything possible to prepare for the new series," a source told the newspaper. "It's a difficult time but it's a case of 'all systems go'. They're determined not to let the virus stop the series going ahead.

"Obviously they can't have meetings or meet potential contestants, but they're finding ways of getting things done in a different way. Lots of the casting process is being done via video calls.

"It can be put back again and again. If the series can't air until right at the end of the year, then so be it. It will still happen."

Love Island is ITV2's most popular show ever, watched by a peak of 5.9 million viewers last summer.
