Shep Smith's new CNBC show to launch on September 30

Shep Smith's new show for CNBC will launch on Wednesday, September 30, it is confirmed.

CNBC has announced that Shep Smith will make his first on-air appearance for the network on September 30.

The 56-year-old was one of the original anchors on the FOX News Channel when it launched in 1996 and stayed with the broadcaster until last year, when he asked to be released from his contract.

Smith recently confirmed that he has joined business news channel CNBC and will front a new weeknight show, The News with Shepard Smith, which will go beyond business news to cover the entire news and political landscape.

"The News with Shepard Smith will deliver the day's news that goes well beyond headlines and political punditry," said Dan Colarusso, CNBC's senior vp of business news. "We are going to tell stories and show images that make sense of an increasingly complicated world."

Smith added: "In my more than 30 years in journalism, there has never been a better or more critical time to launch a non-partisan, fact-based evening newscast.

"From the ongoing pandemic to the election and the economy, the mission of this program is to cover the most important news of the day with depth and clarity. Each night, we will be bold, we will be direct and we will deliver the truth to our viewers."

The show will debut on Wednesday, September 30 at 7pm on CNBC in the US and is also due to be simulcast in the UK on CNBC Europe.
