Rennes steal Breton derby with late goal

Pedro Henrique's last-minute goal gives Rennes a 1-0 victory in the Breton derby.

Rennes have extended their unbeaten run to six games after a late Pedro Henrique goal gave them a 1-0 victory over lowly Lorient in the Breton derby.

The home side nearly took the lead on 24 minutes when Kamil Grosicki's cross from the right found Abdoulaye Doucoure, but his effort was well blocked by Vincent Le Goff in the only first-half action of note.

Lorient, who led Paris Saint-Germain at the weekend before losing 2-1, didn't threaten the Rennes goal until just after the restart, when Raphael Guerreiro's effort from Le Goff's cross was turned behind by Benoit Costil.

Doukare raised the tempo on 67 minutes when he picked the ball up and drove at the Lorient defence, before he was felled on the edge of the box by Lamine Kone.

Sylvain Armand's shot from the resulting free kick fell to Mahamadou Habib Habibou, but from just six yards out the striker couldn't get the ball out from under his feet and Lorient were able to clear the danger.

Henrique then stole the win for Rennes when he applied the finish to a quick counter-attack.

The result moves Rennes up to seventh in Ligue 1 while Lorient remain in 18th with just 10 points from 13 games.
