Eibar too strong for Elche

Newly-promoted La Liga side Eibar continue their bright start to the season with a 2-0 win over Elche.

Newly-promoted Eibar continued their strong start to the La Liga season with a 2-0 win over Elche at Martinez Valero this evening.

The visitors needed just three minutes to open the scoring, with Dani Garcia hitting the ball on the volley from just outside the box.

Enzo Roco came close to getting Elche back on level terms just two minutes later when he tried to head in from a Faycal Fajr cross, but Xabi Irureta made the save.

Raul Navas and Eneko Boveda both came close to doubling Eibar's advantage inside the opening 20 minutes, but neither could find the back of the net.

Eibar continued to create the majority of the goal-scoring opportunities though, and did manage to add a second shortly before the break when Saul picked out Raul Redal for a header just a couple of yards out.

The hosts fought hard to try to pull a goal back shortly after the restart, but Cristian Herrera, Jonathas and Pedro Mosquera all fired wide.

Mosquera and Damian Suarez both had efforts saved late on, but the home side were unable to give themselves some hope in the final minutes of the match.

The result leaves Elche without a win at home this season, while Eibar climb up to fifth in the table.
