Coronavirus latest: WrestleMania 36 to go ahead behind closed doors in April

WWE confirm that WrestleMania 36 will go ahead in April as scheduled but without spectators and hosted at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.

WWE have confirmed that WrestleMania will go ahead despite coronavirus causing numerous cancellations in the global sporting calendar.

The meet was due to take place on April 5 at the Raymond James Stadium, Florida, but will instead be hosted at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.

There will, however, be no spectators in attendance as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement released by WWE said: "In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place.

"However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view," read a statement from WWE.

"Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE's training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania."

WWE Raw was held at the PC earlier this week after SmackDown also took place on Friday.

Wrestlemania, which is the flagship event of the WWE calendar, will see Roman Reigns take on Goldberg while Drew McIntyre attempts to dethrone Brock Lesnar in two of the standout matches.
