'B' sample confirms Nigerian gold medallist's Commonwealth Games doping

Nigerian weightlifter Chika Amalaha's 'B' sample returns positive to confirm her suspension from the Commonwealth Games.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has confirmed that weightlifter Chika Amalaha has been suspended from the Commonwealth Games after her backup doping sample came back positive.

The 16-year-old Nigerian weightlifter, who won gold in the women's 53kg category last Friday, was provisionally suspended from Glasgow 2014 earlier this week after failing a drugs test.

Amalaha's 'A' sample revealed traces of diuretics and masking agents, while the results of her 'B' sample, which were examined in a laboratory in London, also tested positive.

CGF chief executive Mike Hooper confirmed the news this morning, adding that a hearing will take place later today with regards to Amalaha's gold medal.

Dika Toua of Papua New Guinea won silver in the 53kg event and India's Santoshi Matsa earned bronze.
