Tomas Berdych records routine win over Lucas Pouille to reach Wimbledon semi-finals

Tomas Berdych is in the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time in six years after a 7-6(4) 6-3 6-2 win over Lucas Pouille on Wednesday afternoon.

Tomas Berdych has secured a place in the Wimbledon semi-finals after a 7-6(4) 6-3 6-2 win over Lucas Pouille on Wednesday afternoon.

It took the 10th seed one hour and 54 minutes to seal victory as he overcame an early wobble in the opening set to take down an error-strewn opponent who never looked likely to cause an upset.

Berdych was taken to a tie-break in the first set but raced into a 5-1 lead and held off a mini fightback at 5-4 to see it out in 54 minutes.

The second and third sets, meanwhile, were more straightforward for the Czech as a combination of devastating shots combined with a number of errors by the Frenchman gave Berdych a routine victory.

Berdych ended the day with 35 winners to 24 unforced errors and only dropped seven points when he got his first serve in, while Pouille finished with more unforced errors than winners and hit eight double faults throughout the match.

Berdych's progression into the last four in SW19 for the first time in six years will see him meet either Andy Murray or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
