Gael Monfils still yet to drop a set as he books place in quarter-finals

Gael Monfils eases past Marcos Baghdatis to maintain his perfect record at the US Open as he wins in straight sets for the fourth time.

Number 10 seed Gael Monfils has marched into the quarter-finals of the US Open for the third time, courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Marcos Baghdatis.

The Frenchman is still yet to drop a set during his run to the last eight, with Baghdatis the latest opponent to be brushed aside in a straightforward 6-2 6-2 6-3 triumph.

Monfils, who boasted nine aces across the three sets, took the opener by holding his serve throughout and breaking the Cypriot in the sixth game.

Baghdatis, competing at this stage of the tournament for the first time, struggled to keep afloat in the match when losing serve three times in succession, which paved the way for Monfils to cruise into a two-set lead.

The three-time quarter-finalist edged a tight fourth game in what proved to be the final set of the contest, getting over the line with an impressive serve rate to set up a meeting with either Rafael Nadal or Lucas Pouille in the next round.
