Widnes Vikings hammer Leigh Centurions in Super League qualifier

The Widnes Vikings score nine tries to ease to a 50-6 victory over the Leigh Centurions in their Super League qualifier.

The Widnes Vikings have secured a commanding 50-6 win over Leigh Centurions in their Super League qualifier clash at Select Security Stadium.

The Centurions took an early lead as Ben Reynolds finished off a flowing move from the visitors to find the line at the corner and Ryan Brierley kicked the conversion.

Widnes responded immediately through scores from Patrick Ah Van and Kevin Brown to take the lead, while Charley Runciman and Paddy Flynn guided the Vikings into a 20-6 lead at the break.

Early in the second half, Alex Gerrard found the line to put the game beyond the doubt and Rhys Hanbury then raided the length of the field after a mistake from Gareth Hock to put Widnes into a commanding lead.

Joe Mellor added another score for the Vikings when he broke through the Centurions' defensive line 30 metres out and he raced over the tryline to touch down.

Ah Van notched his second try of the game as he collected a pass from Hanbury to cross over, and Jack Owens secured the dominant win when he made a fine individual burst to touch down to score his side's ninth try of the game.
