Denis Betts: 'Widnes raring to go in 2015'

Widnes are ready for the challenge of the Super League in 2015, according to coach Denis Betts.

Widnes Vikings coach Denis Betts believes that the club are set for another big year in the Super League this season.

The Vikings, who returned to Super League in 2012, reached the playoffs for the first time last year, and were named Club of the Year for their achievements.

"We're in a good place. The big challenge we set ourselves constantly is not to take a backwards step, but it becomes really tough when you have a big year," Betts told Sky Sports News.

"Now this year, as Terry O'Connor points out, we have to reach the top six and win the Challenge Cup to get better. Everybody has gone out and spent a load of money, but we've a lot of faith in this group.

"We've brought a couple of people in that are going to really add quality to us. We've strengthened ourselves with a bit more size and given ourselves a bit more experience."

Widnes have added hooker Aaron Heremaia and forwards Gil Dudson, Manase Manuokafoa and Chris Clarkson, who is on a year-long loan from Leeds Rhinos, over the close-season.

However, former captain Jon Clarke announced his retirement at the end of last season, and has joined the club's backroom staff.
