Brentford new stadium to open December 2019
Brentford's new stadium is expected to be ready for the club to move into in December 2019.

Championship side Brentford are reportedly hoping to move into their new stadium by December 2019.

The Bees' relocation from Griffin Park to a new venue has been in the works for more than 10 years, with approval for the project finally granted a year ago.

Construction of the new stadium is slated to begin next month and, according to the Evening Standard, the club are aiming to start playing matches there at the end of 2019.

Under current EFL rules, clubs are permitted to change their home venue during the course of a season, although it is unclear how the plans would be affected if Brentford win promotion to the Premier League next season.

The new stadium is based near Kew Bridge and will have a capacity of 17,250 as part of a ground-share arrangement with rugby union side London Irish.

Brentford's current 12,300-capacity Griffin Park ground has been the club's home since 1904 and is famed for being the only English football league stadium with a pub on each corner.
