India beat England to claim top spot in group

India score a last-minute winner to beat England 4-3 in the men's hockey at the Commonwealth Games, sealing top spot in Pool B in the process.

India have beaten England 4-3 in a thrilling clash at the Commonwealth Games to finish top of Pool B in the men's hockey.

Both teams had already sealed their place in the semi-finals of the competition, but top spot was still up for grabs and India clinched it in dramatic fashion, with the last-minute winner from Mandeep Singh handing them all three points.

Singh's goal - which was allowed to stand after a referral - came with less than 40 seconds of the match remaining and just moments after Varun Kumar had levelled the scores.

The vast majority of the drama did not arrive until the final quarter, with England going into half time with a narrow 1-0 lead courtesy of David Condon's goal.

Manpreet Singh restored parity in the third quarter, but five of the seven goals arrived in the final 15 minutes as India outscored England 3-2 to claim the win.

The result means that England will face Australia in the semi-finals on Friday, while India will take on New Zealand.
